Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus frustrated by new ankle injury

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus has rued his bad luck following his second ankle injury in just over three months.

Dortmund announced on Monday that Reus, 25, is set for another four weeks on the sidelines after partially tearing ankle ligaments during Germany's 2-1 win over Scotland at the Westfalenstadion on Sunday.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach man was fouled by Charlie Mulgrew in the dying seconds of the Euro 2016 qualifier -- just over three months after an ankle injury put an end to his hopes of taking part in the World Cup in Brazil.

"I am not exactly enjoying the best of luck right now but, at the same time, this injury will not knock me flat," Reus told Bild on Tuesday.

Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp, meanwhile, has said he is devastated for the player, but urged his team to do their best to carry on without him.

"That's just a stupid affair. The mood was close to zero on Sunday night," he said. "But there is nothing you can do about it. It could have even been worse. I feel really sorry for Marco, but four weeks will pass soon."

Dortmund, who lost their opening Bundesliga match at home to Bayer Leverkusen before winning away at Augsburg, entertain Freiburg on Saturday. They then once again host Arsenal in the Champions League group stage the following Tuesday.

"We have to function without Reus and win points," Klopp said.

The injury to Reus could mean Shinji Kagawa is given his first start for the club since rejoining from Manchester United, with Klopp's options in central midfield limited following Jonas Hofmann's loan move to Mainz.
