Fabrice Muamba: Danny Welbeck can emulate Daniel Sturridge for Arsenal

Fabrice Muamba has said he believes Danny Welbeck can make the sort of impact for Arsenal that Daniel Sturridge did for Liverpool last season.

Welbeck joined the Gunners from Manchester United on transfer deadline day in a deal worth 16 million pounds, and former Arsenal and Bolton midfielder Muamba believes his signing was a shrewd move by manager Arsene Wenger.

Speaking to ESPN FC at the SoccerEx global convention in Manchester, he said he felt the switch to the Emirates Stadium would be perfect for the England international, who had struggled to cement a regular starting place at Old Trafford.

"If he [Welbeck] can get a run of games, it will be really beneficial for him and for Arsenal", the 29-year-old said.

"Obviously they've got [Alexis] Sanchez who can play up front and [Olivier] Giroud, who is injured, but I think if Danny can get a run of games then, with his confidence, he'll get himself going again."

Muamba said Welbeck could emulate Sturridge, who experienced a dramatic upturn in form following his move from Chelsea to Liverpool.

"To have someone like Danny Welbeck coming into the team is a great addition, and he could have the same impact that [Daniel] Sturridge had last season at Liverpool", he added.

"There has been a lot of pressure on Arsene [Wenger] and Arsenal, in terms of transfers, but I think Arsene has now got the players he wants."
