Loic Remy determined to impress at new club Chelsea

New Chelsea striker Loic Remy insists he has not joined the club to sit on the substitutes' bench.

Remy, 27, signed for the Blues from Queens Park Rangers before the end of the transfer window, having seen a move to Liverpool break down earlier in the summer.

The France international is aware he lies behind Diego Costa in the pecking order for a starting place up front, but is confident he can force his way into Jose Mourinho's team.

"I didn't sign for them in order to sit on the bench. I will try to improve as much as I can alongside their great players, and the rest will happen naturally," he told The People. "I know I won't start out as first-choice striker at Chelsea, but nothing is set in stone. I have my aims."

Remy, who joined QPR in January 2013 from Marseille before spending last season on loan at Newcastle, said he jumped at the chance to sign for Chelsea when the opportunity first arose.

"When the chance comes up to join a club like Chelsea you can't say no. The deal was done late in the evening. I was prepared to stay at QPR but I didn't hesitate for a second when Chelsea came along," he said.

"Being at Chelsea is the perfect response to my critics. Many thought I'd fall into obscurity by joining QPR, but look at me now. I always try to make the best decisions for my career. I've come a long way from all my problems and that is not down to luck but hard work."
