Germany boss Joachim Low had told ZDF TV after his side's 4-2 friendly defeat to Argentina that he would make changes to his squad ahead of the game at Munich's Allianz Arena, and Schalke winger Sidney Sam has been added the squad.

However, Germany, who are already without Sami Khedira following a thigh injury, will begin their Euro 2016 qualification campaign without Borussia Dortmund's Hummels, Arsenal's Ozil and Schalke's Draxler as a result of minor injuries.

The German FA (DFB) has announced that the trio will remain with the national team to undergo treatment.

Sam, who last featured for Die Nationalmannschaft in the 1-0 win over England at Wembley in November 2013, has been added to the squad as a result of the attacking absentees, but Low has decided against bringing in defensive cover for Hummels despite concerns being raised after the defeat to Argentina.

Low defended Wednesday's performance in an interview on the DFB website.

"The majority of our players only had a short preseason, and we only had two days together as a team. Moreover, we missed a number of players you can't just replace," he said, referring to the absence of Khedira, new captain Bastian Schweinsteiger and centre-backs Hummels and Jerome Boateng.

Mario Gomez, returning to the national team after being haunted by injuries last season, wasted three clear chances, and was booed by the fans in Dusseldorf upon his substitution.

"Mario was injured for seven months and has made one competitive appearance this season," Low said. "It's clear that he can't be in top shape right now. It was important to me to see how he moves. Of course, he was a bit unfortunate, but I know what he is capable of.

"It's just not right that a player of Die Nationalmannschaft is whistled at during a home game just because he misses the one chance or another. I don't have any understanding of it."
