Liverpool to sign Spain under-17 midfielder Madger Antonio

Liverpool have signed Spain under-17 midfielder Madger Antonio from Villarreal for a nominal fee, subject to international clearance.

The 17-year-old, who has confirmed the move on Twitter, is set to link up with the Reds' academy side.

Born in Alicante, he made one brief substitute appearance last season for Villarreal's B team, who play in the third tier of Spanish football.

He has played for Spain's under-17 side alongside fellow midfielders Sergi Canos and Pedro Chirivella, who both moved to Liverpool last summer.

All three players were part of the international side who missed out to Switzerland for a place at May's European Under-17 Championship in Malta.

Madger's contract at Villarreal was set to expire next summer, and the club decided to sell him rather than risk losing him for nothing.

He is set to feature for Liverpool's under-18 and under-21 sides once international clearance is received.
