Southampton are not expecting England striker Jay Rodriguez to leave on transfer deadline day, sources have told ESPN FC.
Reports continue to link Rodriguez with a move to Tottenham in which winger Andros Townsend would switch to the south coast as part of the deal.
But the Saints -- who have seen a succession of high-profile players depart this summer -- are eager to hang onto Rodriguez, who is recovering from the knee injury that ended his hopes of a place in the England World Cup squad.
Chairman Ralph Krueger has previously insisted that both Rodriguez and midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin will not be going anywhere before the window shuts.
Boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed that he is interested in bringing Townsend to St Mary's, but it appears there are too many obstacles for that deal to be completed in the final hours of the transfer window.
