Roma face competition for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot

Roma are looking to complete the signing of Adrien Rabiot from Paris Saint-Germain on Monday, even though the president of the French club admits he would like to keep hold of him.

With a year left on his contract, Rabiot, 19, has rejected PSG's offers of an extension, and the promising midfielder hopes to quit the Parc des Princes this summer. The teenager is reportedly being pursued by Arsenal as well as Roma.

PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi, speaking after his club's emphatic 5-0 win over Saint-Etienne on Sunday evening, admitted he is in talks with Roma, as well as other parties interested in the 19-year-old.

"We're still talking," he told Canal+. "We're talking with Roma, but also with other clubs. Maybe it will happen. We're talking and there are a few hours [of the transfer window] to go so maybe he will leave. I would like to keep hold of him."

Roma are also keen to add to their defensive options following the arrival of Kostas Manolas last week, with Newcastle United's Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa emerging as the most likely candidate, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Rudi Garcia's Roma, who finished second to Juventus in Serie A last season, got their league campaign off to a winning start on Saturday, beating Fiorentina 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico.

They will face Manchester City, Bayern Munich and CSKA Moscow on their return to the Champions League, starting at home to the Russian side on Sept. 17.
