The Bundesliga had seen 24 goals scored in the weekend's opening seven games -- but Sunday saw the pay-off for that excitement in the form of two goalless draws.

Mainz and Hannover played out a stalemate at the Coface Arena.

Hannover, who beat Schalke in the previous weekend's opening round of games, could have gone top of the table with another win and had the better openings, Hiroshi Kiyotake seeing an attempt cleared off the line by Christoph Moritz.

Freiburg and Borussia Monchengladbach were both left waiting for a first win of the season after sharing the spoils in their clash.

Hosts Freiburg had the best chance to take all three points, Admir Mehmedi missing a penalty just after the hour mark.

Bayer Leverkusen are top of the table after two full rounds of games, the only side to have won both of their matches.
