Simeone: Di Maria is Real's best player (0:55)

Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone described Angel Di Maria as Real Madrid's best player, after their 1-1 draw in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup on Tuesday. (0:55)

Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez shook off a question about reports that Barcelona had offered 60 million euros for Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria during Friday's preseason news conference.

"No, no, I am not going to answer that," Xavi said, shaking his head. "He is a player for Madrid. It is very difficult that a player goes from Madrid to Barcelona or Barcelona to Madrid. There have been rare cases, but very tough that that would be the case. But he's a great player, though, honestly."

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said on Thursday that the Argentine winger had asked to leave the Bernabeu and rejected Madrid's offer of a new contract.

Real Madrid have set an internal minimum price for a transfer of 70 million euros (62 million pounds), according to ESPN FC sources.

The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, with recent reports suggesting the Red Devils are willing to spend up to 100 million pounds across the transfer fee and wages to take him to Old Trafford.

"The Argentine is a Real Madrid player through the end of the transfer window," Ancelotti said on Thursday. "I am surprised to read that there are apparent discrepancies between the club and myself. There is no discrepancy and both sides think the same as I do. Di Maria asked to leave and has rejected an offer from the club.

"The player himself has to solve this situation. If he doesn't find a solution to his future, he will continue working with us, no problem."
