Lukas Podolski not a Gala target

Galatasaray are not interested in making an offer for Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski and have also revealed they were rebuffed when they approached the Gunners about the availability of Joel Campbell.

The future of Podolski, 29, appears to be uncertain and Arsenal could be prepared to let the Germany international move on should an acceptable offer be received. He has been linked with a move to Gala this week but the Turkish club's president, Unal Aysal, has denied there is any interest, according to reports in Turkey.

"I asked [manager] Cesare Prandelli if we should target Lukas Podolski," Aysal is quoted as saying. "Prandelli told us that Podolski would be a luxury transfer and that he isn't required. As a result we didn't pursue the matter further."

But there was firm interest in Campbell, who had a successful season on loan in Greece with Olympiakos last season before starring at the World Cup with Costa Rica. However, with Campbell now integrated into the Gunners' squad for the first time there are no plans at the moment to loan him out for fourth time.

Campbell was signed by Arsenal in 2011 from Saprissa but was immediately loaned out to Lorient as he did not qualify for a UK work permit at that time. He spent 2012-13 with Real Betis before joining Olympiakos last summer.

"Joel Campbell is an excellent, young, promising player," Aysal added. "However, Arsenal have not transfer listed him and won't let him leave so there is nothing we can do.

"We will be making transfers before the end of the transfer window and strengthening the squad. We have areas we need to strengthen going into the new season."
