United deny making Muller, Reus offers

Manchester United have denied they made offers to Germany duo Thomas Muller and Marco Reus.

Muller signed a new five-year contract with Bayern Munich in June before heading off for his country's victorious World Cup campaign in Brazil.

However, the forward told Bild on Wednesday that he had received an "astronomical" offer when asked about an approach from Old Trafford, although he did not confirm that it was indeed United.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo said he abandoned his attempts to bring in Borussia Dortmund winger Reus because United had already failed with a more lucrative offer.

But a United club spokesman told PA Sport: "It is not true that we made offers for Muller or Reus at any stage."

Muller played for United boss Louis van Gaal at the Allianz Arena and, asked about United, told Bild: "Of course -- I was aware I could theoretically earn more with a transfer.

"The sums that were standing by from foreign clubs were already astronomical. I can only say that a change was never really an issue anyway."

United have made three major signings this summer, recruiting Argentina defender Marcos Rojo on Wednesday to join their earlier additions Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera in their squad.

Cerezo said of Reus: "It's a player who, at this time, is impossible to us. Look, he had an offer for a lot of money from Manchester United and he has not gone... we will not sign him with a lesser offer."
