But the 24-year-old Germany international is adamant he never wanted to leave his only club. He told Bild: "I can just say: a transfer for me was never an option. FC Bayern is my club." Muller signed a new five-year contract at Bayern in June but revealed he had more lucrative approaches from elsewhere. "I knew that I would have earned more money," he added. Asked about a United offer, he replied: "The sums from other clubs which circulated had been astronomical." Muller became a regular in the Bayern team in the 2009-10 season, the first of Van Gaal's two years in charge at the Allianz Arena, and has gone to score 100 goals in 258 games for them. He has won the Bundesliga three times and the Champions League in 2013 and was part of the Germany side who triumphed in this summer's World Cup, when he scored five goals and started every game.
