Sami Khedira keen to join Bayern

Sami Khedira is eager to join Bayern Munich as Real Madrid attempt to offload the Germany midfielder this summer, sources have told ESPN FC.

Bayern saw Javi Martinez suffer an anterior cruciate ligament injury earlier this month and coach Pep Guardiola has said in Bild that "it would be nice" to reinforce.

It is thought that the priority is to add a centre-back -- with Roma's Medhi Benatia and Atletico Madrid's Diego Godin emerging as the favourites -- but they could yet move for a defensive midfielder, with Bayer Leverkusen's Gonzalo Castro also touted as a target.

Real are contemplating the sale of Khedira -- as well as Angel Di Maria -- in order to raise the necessary funds for a striker, specifically Monaco's Radamel Falcao.

Sources state Khedira has now instructed his representatives to investigate the possibility of a move to Bayern, with the Bundesliga champions pondering a potential move.

Bayern would certainly be well able to afford the player's wages, which had previously proven the main sticking point for Arsenal, who had been strongly linked with the player earlier in the summer.

While Arsene Wenger remains on the lookout for a defensive midfielder as well as a defender, the English club have been put off by the Madrid man's wage demands. There had also been links with Morgan Schneiderlin, but the Southampton midfielder is said to prefer Tottenham Hotspur because he feels he will get more first-team football under Mauricio Pochettino.
