Dortmund CEO Watzke signs extension

DORTMUND, Germany -- Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has agreed a three-year contract extension with the club.

Dortmund say in a statement that their executive committee agreed to extend the 55-year-old Watzke's existing deal until December 31, 2019.

The club's president Reinhard Rauball says, "Watzke has produced excellent work over the last few years. He was the architect of BVB's recent past; he is the architect of our present and will now drive the further, sustainable development of this great club."

In the past year, Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp and sporting director Michael Zorc extended their contracts until 2018 and 2019, respectively.

Dortmund host Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich for the German Super Cup, a curtain-raiser for the coming season, on Wednesday.
