Liverpool have reportedly asked about the availability of Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani as they continue to hunt for a replacement for Luis Suarez.

Cavani's agent said the Merseysiders made an inquiry about his client -- who, like Suarez, is a Uruguay international -- earlier this summer.

Suarez, who scored 31 Premier League goals as Liverpool came agonisingly close to ending their title drought, moved to Barcelona for 75 million pounds last month.

But agent Claudio Annelluci said the Reds were not the only English club interested in bringing Cavani to England from Paris.

"There was much interest in the player during the past six months. I can confirm that Cavani has heard proposals from Liverpool and Arsenal," Uruguayan newspaper El Telegrafo has reported him as saying, according to The Mirror.

"He would love to play in England, but has not yet made a final decision. He is not interested in money and fame -- he just wants to be happy playing football."

Liverpool would be expected to pay a huge transfer fee and big wages to sign Cavani, who moved to PSG from Napoli for a reported 53 million pounds last summer.

He has often found himself playing a supporting role to star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic in a wide role at the Parc des Princes, leading to speculation about his future

Manchester United and Chelsea have also been linked with a deal.

The Times reported that Anfield manager Brendan Rodgers had also hoped to bring in Radamel Falcao from Monaco on loan, but was told he would be going to Real Madrid.
