Mauricio Pinilla joins Genoa

Mauricio Pinilla has joined Genoa from Serie A rivals Cagliari on a permanent basis.

The 30-year-old Chile striker successfully underwent a medical on Thursday morning and links up with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini's squad in time for the new 2014-15 season.

A statement published on Genoa's official website said Pinilla, who scored 14 league goals for Cagliari following his arrival in July 2012, had joined his new teammates in training ahead of Saturday's friendly meeting with Hoffenheim.

Pinilla had reportedly been a target for English clubs West Ham and Leeds. The latter are now owned by former Cagliari president Massimo Cellino, who has been busy raiding Italy for new players this summer.
