Gary Medel tipped for Inter greatness

Inter Milan are closing in on the signing of Cardiff City midfielder Gary Medel -- and Nerazzurri legend Ivan Zamorano has likened the Chile international to Paul Ince and Diego Simeone.

Medel, 27, underwent a medical in Milan on Tuesday and, upon arrival in the country, expressed hope he would prove a solid replacement for Esteban Cambiasso, who left Inter earlier this summer after a decade at the club.

"I'm delighted to have finally arrived at Inter," Medel said, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. "I'm ready to fill the boots of Esteban Cambiasso in midfield."

Former Chile striker Zamorano, meanwhile, has compared Medel to his former Inter teammates Ince and Simeone.

"He's a complete midfielder, arriving in Italy in his prime," he told La Gazzetta. "He's an idol in Chile, already on a level with [Alexis] Sanchez or [Arturo] Vidal.

"I have the Inter fans in my heart, and they will take Medel to their hearts. They are going to fall in love with him. It might happen that he plays some good and some bad games, but he never leaves the field without having given everything, without being short on breath or covered in sweat.

"Gary has something of Paul Ince about him, for the way he can be a leader on the field, while he reminds me of Simeone for the way he can lift his teammates.

"But don't get the wrong idea about him -- he's not a bad guy. He showed at the World Cup how he can play good football too. He likes winning the ball back a lot, but when he has the ball, he always knows the right thing to do with it."
