Real coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed Ronaldo will sit out as he tries to recover from a knee injury that has kept him out of all of his side's preseason games.

Ancelotti wants his star fit for the European Super Cup against Sevilla on Aug. 12.

"Ronaldo is working hard but we won't put him out tomorrow," the former Chelsea boss said at a news conference on Friday.

"He will begin training with the squad [in Spain] after the tour as we plan to use him in the Super Cup."

The match is the teams' final group-stage match of the International Champions Cup.

Manchester United can advance to the final with at least a draw on 90 minutes, but Real can not move on after defeats to Roma and Inter.

The sold-out match, at the 109,000-seat home of the University of Michigan's American football team, is expected to break a record for most fans to watch a soccer game in the United States.
