Reports: Argentina's Sabella to resign

Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella is expected to end weeks of speculation about his future by resigning on Wednesday.

The Argentine Football Association said Sabella will hold a news conference on Wednesday and, although it did not confirm his departure, local media are reporting that he is leaving.

Sabella took over Argentina in 2011 following the departure of Diego Maradona. He led the team to the World Cup final against Germany earlier this month, where Argentina lost 1-0.

Sabella has talked of being worn out since the World Cup, saying he needed a rest.

Gerard Martino and Jose Pekerman have been mentioned as possible replacements. Martino coached Paraguay's national team and most recently Barcelona. Pekerman coached Argentina at the 2006 World Cup and took Colombia to this year's quarterfinals.
