Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp said Loic Remy still has a future at the club after his move to Liverpool fell through and questioned suggestions the player had failed his medical.
Remy, 27, was set to sign for Liverpool and linked up with the club on their preseason tour of the U.S. only for the Reds to call off the deal.
But Redknapp, who wants to sign a new striker, told a news conference he would welcome the France international striker back into the fold ahead of the new season.
He said: "Loic Remy will return to QPR. He's a fantastic striker. From my point of view and the club's point of view we've got a fantastic striker back here. If he's here we'll be delighted to have him back here playing."
Redknapp said any suggestion the move fell through due to a physical problem "doesn't make sense" to him.
"I don't know how he failed a medical," he added. "He passed one here and at Newcastle. I can't believe he'd fail a medical for any reason at all."
When it was put to Redknapp that Liverpool may have withdrawn from the deal after failing to sell Fabio Borini, he replied: "It can't be a medical one. You couldn't meet a fitter lad than what he is so there has to be another reason."
QPR have already signed defenders Rio Ferdinand and Steven Caulker this summer but Redknapp remains keen to add further strength to his squad ahead of the new season.
However, he said: "We've made enquiries but at the moment there's nothing happening."
Redknapp also confirmed Spanish midfielder Esteban Granero is set to complete a move to Real Sociedad.
The former Real Madrid player joined QPR in 2012 but spent last season on loan at the Spanish club.
He said: "He's a fantastic boy and I wish him well"
