Puel: Ospina has signed for Arsenal

Arsenal have completed the signing of Colombian international goalkeeper David Ospina from Nice, for a fee believed to be around four million euros, according to Nice manager Claude Puel.

Ospina, 25, impressed during this summer's World Cup in Brazil and, as his contract had only one year left on it, had been linked with a move to London ever since Lukas Fabianski opted to leave the Gunners for a free transfer to Swansea.

Puel confirmed the news to Sky Sports News, saying: "It is confirmed, yes. At 25 years old it is important for him to experience another championship, so it is a fantastic move for him. I think he can take the No. 1 spot at Arsenal because his qualities are very, very strong. He is very good with his feet, with his arms, and he knows soccer. He is a very, very good player."

Both clubs have yet to announce the deal officially, but Arsene Wenger earlier told ESPN FC that Wojciech Szczesny would face competition for his No. 1 spot: "You know at the start Szczesny will be the No.1, then again we'll be down to performances and, if Ospina shows that he is better, he will play."

The Colombian played 135 Ligue 1 games for Nice since joining them from Atletico Nacional in July 2009.
