Genoa, Samp chase Hugo Campagnaro

Genoa and Sampdoria are both in the hunt for Inter Milan defender Hugo Campagnaro, according to reports in Italy.

Speaking after an assembly of club presidents at Lega Serie A headquarters in Milan, Genoa president Enrico Preziosi confirmed to Genovese TV channel Primocanale that his side "are interested" in Campagnaro.

As a result, the first Genovese derby battle of the season is set to take place off the field for the 34-year-old, who appeared once for Argentina at the World Cup this summer.

The former Napoli defender was one of Walter Mazzarri's first signings as Inter coach last year, although he failed to hold down a regular starting berth for the Nerazzurri.

A return to Liguria, where he spent two years with Samp, has been touted, although his agent Angelo Moretto says he is in the dark about Genoa's interest. A return to the Blucerchiati has been discussed, on the other hand.

"I've just heard this rumour now," Moretto told FCInterNews.it. "I knew there was something in the air with Sampdoria, and I think Inter have spoken to Samp, but I knew nothing about Genoa. I'd been in touch with Samp, but there's nothing official.

"I spoke to Hugo yesterday and he knew nothing about this either. He will report for duty with Inter as usual. He doesn't want to leave, but if Inter don't want him to stay, then we will find a solution.

"We just have to wait for him to return to training and then he will find out what needs to be done."
