The French Football League (LFP) had already announced its plans to adopt the spray, which was used at the World Cup in Brazil.

Now the FFF has followed suit, and referees throughout the top three divisions in French men's football and the women's top flight will use the spray from the start of the new campaign.

"We have adopted the spray for Ligue 1, Ligue 2, the National league and the women's Division One," FFF president Noel Le Graet said. "This decision is applicable from the start of the season."

The spray will also be used in the Coupe de France from the round of 64 in the men's competition, and the last 32 in the women's.
