Van Gaal: U.S. tour not good for United (2:18)

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is not happy about the amount of travelling his players must do on their preseason tour to the United States. (2:18)

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal said he will take some time to observe Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez before deciding about the Mexico forward's future with the club.

"I will see him, he will train and he will play in a match. After that I will make a decision," Van Gaal said during a news conference on Tuesday night ahead of United's match vs. the L.A. Galaxy at the Rose Bowl on Wednesday. "I have only seen him under another coach so far. Now I can see him play in a game. Then I can talk about him."

Van Gaal, who has already expressed his displeasure about the U.S. tour, added that he will wait to see how his current squad performs before making any changes.

The Galaxy match will be the first game of a 2½-week-long tour that could see United travel almost 13,500 miles if they reach the final of the International Champions Cup -- the preseason tournament that includes some of the best clubs in Europe -- at Miami's Sun Life Stadium.

United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said the club won't be afraid to spend if Van Gaal says they need to.

United have paid upward of 50 million pounds for Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera, but the biggest transfers in the league have taken place away from Old Trafford this summer.

When asked whether United would be willing to pay a similar amount for a player, Woodward said, "It is in our capabilities. The club are not afraid of doing that -- spending significant amounts of money in the transfer market."

Hernandez has two years left on his United contract but has struggled for playing time and has been the subject of transfer rumours in previous seasons as well. He arrived in Los Angeles on Tuesday night from his hometown of Guadalajara, where he and his grandfather, Tomas Balcazar, were feted by Chivas for their playing days there.

Hernandez thanked the Chivas fans on Twitter for their support.
