Jose Callejon rejects Atletico interest

Jose Callejon has revealed Napoli turned down a big money offer for his services from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid this summer -- and he is pleased they did.

Callejon, 27, moved to the Stadio San Paolo last year from Real Madrid and went on to score 20 goals in all competitions in his debut campaign.

That has led to reported interest from both Barcelona and La Liga winners Atletico, who are in the market for a new striker after seeing Diego Costa, David Villa and Adrian Lopez leave the club this summer.

According to Callejon, Atletico tabled a bid in excess of 25million euros and although the former Espanyol man would never rule out a return to Madrid, he is happy to remain with the Partenopei.

When asked about Atletico's bid, Callejon told Gazzetta dello Sport: "My agent told me about it.

"I was glad [the bid was rejected] because I really want to play in this shirt and have another four years on my contract. I feel good here, I feel the affection of the people.

"In football, never say never, but with [Napoli boss Rafael] Benitez I have my freedom and I do not want to give it up."
