Napoli had been linked with a move for the former Liverpool playmaker, with the arrival of Bayern Munich star Toni Kroos at the Bernabeu adding further competition for starting places in Carlo Ancelotti's midfield.#INSERT type:inline END#

But Alonso's agent Inaki Ibanez has denied there being any contact between the Primera Division and Serie A clubs, insisting his client will not be reuniting with former Anfield boss Rafael Benitez in Italy.

"I can deny all rumours of there being a possible agreement -- there's absolutely nothing with Napoli," he told EuropaCalcio.it.

"The Azzurri have not made any contact with me. There are no negotiations underway and Xabi Alonso will definitely be playing for Real Madrid this season."

The 32-year-old had emerged as a possible target for Napoli, who on Thursday completed the loan signing of Michu from Swansea.

The Champions League qualifiers have given up their pursuit of Olympique Lyonnais' Maxime Gonalons and are still on the lookout for a player to reinforce their midfield.

Despite Bayern stating that they intend to keep Xherdan Shaqiri, the attacker could join Swiss compatriots Gokhan Inler and Blerim Dzemaili in Naples if the Serie A side keep up their reported interest.#INSERT type:inline END#
