Sources: Sunderland not in on Besler

Sunderland have not made a bid for United States defender Matt Besler and are unlikely to do so, sources close to the Wearside club informed ESPN FC.

Sporting Kansas City's Besler, 27, has been linked with a host of clubs in Europe following a strong showing at this summer's World Cup in Brazil and is valued at around 3 million pounds (5 million dollars).

That in turn has prompted speculation over the defender's future. Speaking during a radio interview this week, Besler revealed he had already received an offer from Championship side Fulham, with a deal from Sunderland expected imminently.

"I know Fulham have made an offer to Kansas City and I know Sunderland put in an offer or are putting in an offer. We're trying to get something done as soon as possible," Besler told Sports Radio 810.

"It's a situation which needs to be resolved. I want to be staying in Kansas City if I'm going to stay, but if they're going to sell me I want to know as soon as possible. It's not just my decision. It's the club's decision if they want to sell or not, but I would definitely have an input on a team."

However, sources close to the Black Cats indicated this is not the case, adding that the club are unlikely to be moving for Besler in the near future.

The Sporting KC defender is in the final year of his current contract, with reports suggesting he is to decide on his future in the coming days.
