Roma add Hellas Verona's Juan Iturbe

Roma have continued their summer of high-profile acquisitions by completing a deal for Hellas Verona forward Juan Iturbe.

The 21-year-old had been widely expected to sign for Juventus but Roma, on the same day that they officially presented Urby Emanuelson, sneaked in to steal the Argentinian from under the champions' noses on a five-year deal for 22 million euros (£17.4m).

"AS Roma announces that it has signed with Hellas Verona FC the contract for the definitive acquisition of the rights to the player Iturbe for 22 million euros," read a statement on www.asroma.it.

"The agreement provides for the payment of a variable amount, up to a maximum of 2.5 million euros, for bonuses linked to Roma's achievement of certain athletic goals.

"The player has signed a five-year contract, expiring on June 30, 2019."

Iturbe scored eight goals during a season-long loan in Verona, before making his move from Porto permanently in May, but he will now join Dutch midfielder Emanuelson, former England left-back Ashley Cole and Turkish midfielder Salih Ucan as recent big-name signings in the capital.
