Besiktas closing in on Demba Ba

Besiktas are set to sign Demba Ba from Chelsea, the Turkish club's president has confirmed.

Ba, 29, arrived in Istanbul on Wednesday morning to finalise the deal, with a club statement confirming that talks had begun.

After establishing himself as a Premier League force at Newcastle United, Ba moved to Stamford Bridge in January 2013.

But the Senegal striker played just 19 times for the Blues in the top flight last season, contributing five goals and hearing manager Jose Mourinho publicly declare his need for reinforcements up front.

Speaking to NTV Spor, Besiktas president Fikret Orman said Ba was now likely to move to Istanbul, and for less than Chelsea's asking price.

"We'll speak to the media once it has all been finalised," Orman said. "The initial price was 13 million euros, but we have managed to lower that."

Ba tweeted a picture of himself wearing a Besiktas shirt on Wednesday, although the club are yet to formally confirm the deal.
