Cole, unveiled as a Roma player earlier this month following his release by Chelsea, said former Stamford Bridge teammate Eto'o would be a perfect addition to a side being built to challenge for the scudetto.

"All I can say is that I know he's a great player and a top goal scorer," Cole told a news conference in the Italian capital. "If he were to come, I'd be delighted."

But even if Eto'o does not join Roma's ranks, Cole believes he has joined a side capable of winning honours and said he was looking forward to the challenges of playing in Serie A and again competing in the Champions League.

"I think perhaps English players feel in their comfort zone in England," he explained. "It's a big opportunity for me to try a different language, culture and way of living. I'm happy with my choice."

"I'm joining an ambitious club that has signed some very experienced players, and I'm ready to fight for my place.

"I think I'm going to have a good time here. Hopefully we can do something special next season and win the league."
