Robben has been linked with United since it was announced that Louis van Gaal would be taking over at Old Trafford after the World Cup.

The forward said after Netherlands' 3-0 win over Brazil he shares a "special bond'' with Van Gaal, but that does not mean he will be following the new United boss to Old Trafford for the new season.

"He said I could always come to Manchester United," Robben said. "I have a special bond with him. He is the most important coach in my career.

"It is not an option, though. I will stay at Bayern Munich."

Robben has been in top form under Van Gaal's stewardship at the World Cup, scoring three goals in seven appearances.

Meanwhile, Van Gaal is keen for his new United team to play with the same unity as his Netherlands side as he prepares for his debut campaign in charge of the Red Devils.

"I hope the group in Manchester will become like this one," Van Gaal said. "We have to sing from the same hymn sheet."
