Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio has said Manchester City have told them striker Stevan Jovetic will not be leaving.

Reports in Italy had linked the Montenegro international striker, 24, with a move to the San Siro after he had struggled for game time at the Premier League champions.

But Ausilio, speaking to Sky Italia from Inter's preseason training camp, said: "To be completely honest with you, we did contact Man City and they told us he's not for sale."

However, he hinted that Inter could try again and that there was still time for the situation to develop, adding: "The transfer window shuts on Sep. 2 this year."

Jovetic, who cost City 22 million pounds last summer, spent much of his debut season in England on the sidelines and was often fourth-choice striker behind Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo.
