Mauro Icardi has pledged his future to Inter Milan despite being strongly linked with a summer move to La Liga winners Atletico Madrid.

The 21-year-old Argentina international striker has been mooted as a likely arrival with David Villa having left Atletico over the summer and Diego Costa looking set to join Chelsea.

But Icardi, who joined Inter from Sampdoria last year, told tuttomercatoweb.com: "Atletico Madrid's interest? They are a big club that has done really well with [Diego] Simeone. I am flattered, but I want to remain here.

"I am here because Inter is a big club. Money is not important because I already have a privileged life as a footballer.

"I have four years left on my contract, I am happy here and I want to remain."

Icardi, who suffered a hernia problem last season, scored nine goals in his 22 league appearances.

He said: "It was a hard year for me and for the club. Fortunately, we were able to achieve our aim to qualify for Europe this season [Inter finished fifth in Serie A].

"Now we start from the beginning, and we hope to do well."
