U.S. to start Gonzalez, Davis

Brad Davis and Omar Gonzalez have replaced Alejandro Bedoya and Geoff Cameron in the U.S. lineup for Thursday's (ESPN, noon ET) Group G World Cup qualifying contest against Germany.

Germany has four points and is ahead of the U.S. in Group G on goal differential. Portugal and Ghana, who also play Thursday, have one point apiece.

Centre back Matt Besler, who had previous tightness in his hamstring, was included in the lineup.

Jozy Altidore suffered a strained hamstring against Ghana in the United States' first match and will continue to sit out, although U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann said he hopes for his star forward to be ready in the event the Americans advance to the second round.
