Rueda: Ecuador deserved more

Ecuador coach Reinaldo Rueda felt his side were unlucky not to get at least a point from the 2-1 Group E defeat to Switzerland.

Despite taking the lead through Enner Valencia, Ecuador finished up empty handed, with Admir Mehmedi scoring an equaliser before Haris Seferovic netted a last-minute winner.

Rueda believes his players had done enough to get a get a result from the game, but concedes their naivety ultimately let them down.

"It was an intense and evenly-matched game. We've seen both teams perform to the best of their ability,'' Rueda said.

"We seemed to have the game under control but what use is that if you end up losing? But that's football, although we didn't deserve to lose. Both teams went looking for the win.

"We have to get this defeat out of our heads and get ready to face two very strong opponents [France and Honduras].''

Rieda added: "We were naive and that cost us the game. [The loss] is more our fault. We were not beaten by our opponent."
