Forlan passed fit to face Costa Rica

Uruguay received positive news ahead of their World Cup opener against Costa Rica on Saturday with Diego Forlan having recovered from a stomach bug.

The Cerezo Osaka forward, who won the Golden Ball for the best player at the World Cup four years ago, sat out Wednesday's training with an upset stomach.

However, the 35-year-old joined his teammates in Thursday's practice session at Uruguay's base camp in Sete Lagoas, near Belo Horizonte.

Uruguay star Luis Suarez also returned to training for the first time since undergoing a knee operation on May 21.

The Liverpool striker, who scored 31 goals in the Premier League in the 2013-14 season, is fighting against the clock to recover.

"I couldn't say when we will be able to have Suarez available,'' Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez said earlier this week. ``We have our expectations but until we do more tests, he will not play.''

Suarez is unlikely to face Costa Rica but Tabarez could have the player available for the game against England on June 19 in Sao Paulo.
