Monaco set to cancel Valdes contract

Monaco are poised to wriggle out of their pre-contract agreement with Victor Valdes, football365.fr reports.

Valdes, 32, had been widely expected to move to last season's Ligue 1 runners-up with his contract at Barcelona expiring this summer. The Spanish international goalkeeper is reported to have even signed a pre-contract agreement for a four-year deal at the Stade Louis II some months ago.

However, the website claims Monaco will use an unusual get-out clause in the deal in agreement with the wishes of new coach, Leonardo Jardim, who was appointed earlier this week following Claudio Ranieri's departure at the end of last season.

If the move does fall through, Valdes, who will be sidelined until the end of the year after undergoing surgery on ruptured cruciate ligaments in his left knee in late March, will be left looking elsewhere with Barca having already recruited Marc-Andre ter Stegen to replace him.
