Diego Costa admits Chelsea interest

Diego Costa has confirmed publicly for the first time that he could leave Spanish champions Atletico Madrid to join Chelsea this summer.

- World Cup Rank No. 21: Diego Costa
- Transfer Talk: Real want Ramires

Costa, 25, is a top transfer target for the Blues as manager Jose Mourinho look to reinvigorate his strike force at Stamford Bridge.

Sources told ESPN FC last week that the Brazil-born forward, currently back in the country of his birth to represent defending champions Spain at the World Cup, completed a medical last week before leaving Europe for the tournament, which kicks off on Thursday.

When asked if he was going to join Chelsea in a telephone interview with Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, Costa replied: "Well, it could be."

Meanwhile, Spain coach Vicente del Bosque said that he hopes the selection of Costa will not provoke any more animosity towards his team from the Brazilian public.

Costa played in two friendlies for the World Cup hosts last year, but made the switch to his adopted country after taking Spanish nationality this season.

"During the Confederations Cup they were against us. We're considered rivals to Brazil, so it's a normal reaction," he said an interview published in German newspaper Welt am Sonntag. "There will be moments when our rivalry will mean we aren't exactly loved in Brazil, but in general, I don't think it will be any worse because he is playing for us.

"He decided to take up citizenship and play for us. He achieved a lot with his club this season with his goals, his fight and enthusiasm. A player with these characteristics isn't exactly a bad thing for us."
