Yaya Toure could quit Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure has said in the Mirror he will consider his international future after the World Cup.

Toure, 31, has over 80 caps for his country and is currently preparing for the World Cup in Brazil, where Ivory Coast face Colombia, Greece and Japan in Group C.

But the Manchester City player, whose future at the Etihad has also been the subject of conjecture, has said he is thinking about calling time on his availability for the Ivorians.

Toure said: "It is important to me that, when I do stop playing for Ivory Coast, I leave in a good moment.

"I have always said I would stop once I had won something -- and maybe that has brought some bad luck to the team.

"I am thinking about it, but I haven't made a decision about when it will happen. I will see what happens at the World Cup.

"It's a very difficult decision and I want to do it at the right moment."

Toure is determined that Ivory Coast impress in Brazil as he believes they boast an impressive squad of players.

He said: "We have an amazing squad of players and we all think it is about time we reach our full potential.

"When I look around and see players like [Didier] Drogba, [Salomon] Kalou, [Wilfried] Bony, Gervinho and [Didier] Zokora, I can only be filled with confidence.

"Why we haven't gone on to win a trophy is something I can't understand. We want and we hope we make it soon because some of us haven't got a lot of time left to be winners.

"It won't be long until we have to step aside and let the younger generation come through."

Meanwhile, Ivory Coast coach Sabri Lamouchi has said Toure might not be fit for the start of the World Cup, admitting that the midfielder has yet to fully train with the team.

Toure is recovering from a hamstring injury that he picked up during his club's final Premier League match against West Ham.

After more than a week's treatment at the Aspetar Sports Groin Pain Centre in Qatar, Toure rejoined the team in Dallas for pre-World Cup camp, but he did not appear in warm-ups against Bosnia-Herzegovina and El Salvador.

Instead, he went through private training. "He ended the season with difficulties," Lamouci told Jeune Afrique.

"He is yet to fully train with the group but he's currently responding to a healing protocol. We will do our best to make him fit to play against Japan in our opener. He might start or come in as a substitute. I can't really tell for now."
