Stefano Mauri says Lazio chief Claudio Lotito promised him coaching role

Stefano Mauri says he is keen to find out why he has not been offered a coaching role after being released by Lazio, with club president Claudio Lotito reneging on a promise he had made.

Mauri, 36, was not given a new contract by the Biancocelesti at the end of the season but the midfielder, who insists he will carry on playing for another year or so, says it is the way in which his 10-year spell with the club came to such an end that disappoints him.

"I need to meet with the president to clear up a few things and to talk about my future at the club, because this was promised to me," he told Sky Sport.

"I'm certainly not going to go back to Lazio as a player, but let's see if it will be possible in another function, I don't know if it would be as a director or as a youth team coach. I'm ready to meet Lotito right away. I've always had a great relationship with the club, but they decided to turn the page."

Mauri was also out of contract a year ago, having missed much of the previous season due to a ban for his part in a match-fixing scandal, however Lazio then gave him a new one-year deal.

However, he featured only 12 times in Serie A last season and scored one goal.
