Giovani dos Santos 'not likely' to play vs. Real Salt Lake - coach Curt Onalfo

LA Galaxy said that Mexico forward Giovani dos Santos is "unlikely to be available" for Saturday's match against Real Salt Lake.

The 27-year-old suffered what Galaxy head coach Curt Onalfo called a "minor hamstring issue" during the first half of the team's 1-0 loss to The Portland Timbers on Sunday.

The club reported that dos Santos was "day to day" but "not likely" to travel to Salt Lake City this weekend.

"He felt it in in the first sprint of the game," Onalfo said. "You could tell from the beginning. Sometimes in those occasions that it loosens up but the prudent thing to do was to take him out so he doesn't miss a lot of time."

Onalfo told ESPN Deportes that he had no official information confirming whether the Mexico national team doctors had been in contact with Galaxy officials, but said "I understand that that has happened, that they [Mexico team doctors] have called."

Dos Santos did not participate in training with the team on Wednesday at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

"He remained in the area of the dressing room at StubHub Center and received treatment," a club official told ESPN Deportes.

The Galaxy travel to Real Salt Lake on Saturday seeking their first victory of the MLS season.

ESPN Deportes' Rigo Cervantez contributed to this report.
