Facing Tottenham in Europa League is a dream - Gent director

KAA Gent's managing director says it is a "dream" to draw Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League round of 32 -- largely because of the opportunity to play at Wembley.

The Belgian club, who reached the Champions League's round of 16 last season, will play Tottenham over two legs in February after the English club dropped out of the Champions League via a third-place finish in their group.

Gent's Michel Louwagie hoped to avoid a trip to Turkey and revealed the Juliper League side are excited to play at Wembley, where Spurs will continue to play their European home games.

"We feared we would draw a Turkish opponent," Louwagie told Sporza. "It was the dream of mine and the president to get either Roma or Tottenham.

"This is like a Champions League game. We will play at Wembley, which is fantastic. Every game in that stadium is an epic. Now we can play there, and that is something you want to experience once in your career."

Gent are currently fifth in the Belgian league and have won the title just once in their history. Louwagie concedes that Spurs are favourites for the tie but he is excited by the challenge.

"We have not been one of the top clubs for long, so this is all relatively new for us. We are extra excited," the 60-year-old said.

"The coach always wants a challenge. Last year he was disappointed we did not get an English club. Tottenham are obviously stronger [than Gent], but Gent has also put in performances in Europe that nobody expected.

"Who knows? Maybe they will underestimate us. Tottenham is a big name, and we will go there with a lot of respect."
