Crotone fall to Hellas Verona as Sampdoria cruise in Coppa Italia

Newly promoted Serie A side Crotone fell to recently relegated Hellas Verona 2-1 in the Coppa Italia third round on Sunday.

Marco Fossati gave hosts Verona the lead in the 11th minute, and though Simmy Nwankwo was able to equalise after the hour mark, Franco Zuculini found the winner on 78 minutes.

Crotone join Udinese as Serie A sides falling out of the tournament at the early stage.

Sampdoria had an easier time over third-tier Bassano Virtus, cruising to a 3-0 win thanks to a brace from Luis Muriel, with Ante Budimir also on the scoresheet.

In a matchup of Serie B teams, Pisa scored against Salernitana in the 90th minute to equalise at 1-1 before advancing 4-3 on penalties.
