Dejan Stankovic leaves Inter Milan after one season as club manager

Dejan Stankovic has left his position as club manager at Inter Milan after one season, according to a statement on the club website.

The Nerazzurri published a thank-you message for the former Serbian captain, who played in Milan for a full decade, via social media.

Stankovic told the club in his farewell statement: "I'm glad to have been able to do my bit for this club as an official.

"Inter is my home and this has been a wonderful experience which I'm sure will help me in the next stage of my career.

"We're going different ways now and new challenges lie ahead but I'll always carry these colours in my heart."

Stankovic had a 10-year playing career with the Serie A club and was part of their 2010 treble-winning squad. The 37-year-old captained the Serbian team until 2011 and retired from his professional playing career at the end of the 2012-13 season.

"After making 326 appearances during his playing career, last season he returned to experience the Nerazzurri universe from another perspective, as club manager," the club said.

"Now he's set to move on to pastures new, in the knowledge that his special bond with Inter will never end. Once an Interista, always an Interista!"
