Wes Brown joins Kerala Blasters for ISL4

Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has signed with Kerala Blasters for the upcoming Indian Super League season.

Brown, who spent 13 years at Old Trafford and made 362 appearances for the club, will be reunited at Kerala with his former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen.

"Hello India, Happy Independence day! I'm coming soon to the exciting Indian Super League to play for Kerala Blasters," Brown tweeted, shortly after Kerala made the announcement. Brown added that he was excited to "play in front of the best fans in the world".

Since making his debut in 1998, Brown has won a host of trophies and honours, including five Premier Leagues, two FA Cups, and two UEFA Champions League titles. After leaving Manchester United in 2011, he joined Sunderland, spending five years with them. Brown last played for Blackburn Rovers in the English Championship, but made only five appearances.

Brown is the latest player with Manchester United links to join the ISL, after Steve Coppell (Jamshedpur head coach), Teddy Sheringham (ATK head coach) and Meulensteen.

And Blasters could be set for more good news with PA Sport reporting that their sources say former Man United and Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov could soon be plying his trade with the team as well.

The 36-year-old became a cult figure during his time in the Premier League, shining for Spurs, impressing at Old Trafford and showing flashes of brilliance at Fulham.

Berbatov has been without a club since leaving Greek side PAOK Salonika last summer, but the Bulgarian may now be returning to action in the Indian Super League.

Kerala have finished runners-up in the ISL twice in three years, going down in the final to ATK in both 2014 as well as 2016.
