Bobby Wood fit to return from knee injury as soon as Wednesday

United States forward Bobby Wood could return from a knee injury for Hamburg as soon as Wednesday's match against Borussia Dortmund.

The injury sidelined Wood last weekend, but a Hamburg spokesperson described the setback's severity as "not very high."

Wood sat out last weekend's 2-0 defeat to Hannover with what Kicker magazine and local media reported as a knee problem that had bothered him since the international break.

Wood, who scored late for the U.S. to salvage a 1-1 draw in a World Cup qualifier in Honduras on Sept. 6, played in Hamburg's 2-0 loss at home to Leipzig after returning to Germany, but he missed the side's subsequent training session.

The spokesperson added that if Wood is unable to play against Dortmund, then "at the latest he should be fit again [for] the match in Leverkusen on Sunday."

Wood has scored two goals in four league and cup appearances for Hamburg this season.
