Germany's Timo Werner can 'block out' fans' anger after dive in December

RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner has told kicker he has become used to getting whistled and booed by supporters in Germany.

Werner, 21, has been targeted by supporters in Germany ever since he dived to win a penalty in the Bundesliga match against Schalke in December, an act he later apologised for.

He was singled out by Germany fans last week after coming off the bench in the Nationalmannschaft's win over San Marino.

Germany head coach Joachim Low has criticised supporters for their jeering of Werner, but the player has said he has become used to the hostile atmosphere.

"I need to swallow it now and hope that time will heal all wounds," Werner said. "There's one thing I can say -- I have learned from it and will get out of this thing stronger."

In spite of the constant verbal attacks, Werner was the best German goal scorer in the Bundesliga last season, with 21 goals in 31 matches and a further seven assists.

Subsequently, he was called up to Germany 2017 Confederations Cup squad, and says that jeering won't harm his performances.

He said: "It was even worse in the Bundesliga, and I've scored my goals there. By now, I just block it out and play my game."
