Darmstadt keep hopes alive with late victory; Bremen recover to win

Darmstadt kept their hopes of avoiding relegation from the Bundesliga alive as Jerome Gondorf struck a 92nd-minute winner to defeat Schalke 2-1.

The home side started well and led after 11 minutes as Marcel Heller's cross set up Mario Vrancic, but after Guido Burgstaller had seen a penalty saved for Schalke they were pegged back by Coke's header with 15 minutes left.

Schalke defender Thilo Kehrer was sent off for a second yellow card, but it seemed they would hold on for a point until Gondorf found himself in the right place to finish after a penalty area scramble.

Werder Bremen recovered from the concession of an early goal as they recorded a 2-1 win over Hamburg and stretched their unbeaten run to nine matches.

Michael Gregoritsch needed only six minutes to put visiting Hamburg ahead, but they were unable to keep that lead until the break as Max Kruse rewarding growing pressure with a close-range header.

And with the game entering its final quarter of an hour, Kruse turned provider to set up Florian Kainz for the winner.
