Bayern Munich go top of Bundesliga as Leipzig lose, Dortmund held

Bayern Munich took over at the top of the Bundesliga with a 5-0 win over Wolfsburg, as Leipzig fell to a 1-0 defeat to Ingolstadt.

Arjen Robben put the Bavarians in front in the 19th minute and Robert Lewandowski made it two within five minutes.

Lewandowski's second put the seal on Bayern's win before Thomas Muller ended his 999-minute goalscoring drought to open his league account for the season and put the cherry on top of Bayern's win.

Douglas Costa added a fifth and, with Leipzig losing in Ingolstadt, it meant the record champions returned to the summit of the table on goal difference, 11 days before they host second-placed Leipzig in their final fixture of 2016.

Wolfsburg, meanwhile, remain perilously close to the relegation zone after losing for the eighth time this season.

Ingolstadt became the first team this season to beat Leipzig with a Roger goal enough for a 1-0 win in Bavaria.

Ingolstadt's win against the side coached by their former coach Ralph Hasenhuttl lifted them off the foot of the table and did a favour to their Bavarian rivals Bayern Munich, who replaced Leipzig at the top of the standings.

The only goal of the game came in the 12th minute when Roger rose to get a decisive flick on Anthony Jung's free-kick and diverted the ball past Peter Gulacsi into the far corner of the visitors' net.

A late Marco Reus goal saved Borussia Dortmund from defeat at Cologne as Thomas Tuchel's men held on to sixth place with a 1-1 draw.

rtjoms Rudnevs had given Cologne a 29th-minute lead before Reus struck in the last minute to salvage a point, and keep them ahead of their hosts, who finished the game with 10 men after Salih Ozcan was sent off, in the Bundesliga standings.

Werder Bremen picked up an important three points in their battle against the drop and dented Hertha Berlin's title aspirations with a 1-0 win in the capital.

Max Kruse scored the only goal of the game five minutes before half-time when he capitalised on a mistake by Hertha defender Niklas Stark and beat Rune Jarstein for his second goal in as many games.

Hamburg were celebrating for the second week running with Filip Kostic on target in a 1-0 win over Augsburg.

Hamburg came into the game buoyed by their first win of the season a week ago, and they appeared a much more confident side too, until Lewis Holtby lost his mind just before half-time and was shown a red card for aiming an elbow at Dominik Kohr.

Kostic then scored the all-important goal in the 69th minute when he was on hand to turn the ball in after Nicolai Muller's low shot came back to him kindly off the left-hand post.

Freiburg sent Darmstadt to the bottom thanks to a late Nils Petersen penalty in a 1-0 win.

In Ramon Berndroth's first game in charge of Darmstadt, following the dismissal of Norbert Meier last weekend, the Lilies appeared to have had new life breathed into them.

Their football was anything but what you would expect from a side struggling near the bottom of the table, especially not in an away game, and they were unfortunate not to be ahead before half-time as Artem Fedetskyy hit the post.

All their efforts were ruined five minutes from time, though, by a penalty which was earned and then converted by Petersen to earn Freiburg all three points.
