Stamford Bridge, England
Thanks for joining us folks - remember, you can keep the conversation going on Twitter at @marklomaESPN.
Quite simply, a massive victory for Chelsea. they really needed that but remember that Shakhtar's two goals at Stamford Bridge could yet be crucial should we go to head-to-head at the end of the group.
FULL-TIME: Chelsea 3-2 Shakhtar. An absorbing game of football that had looked like fizzling out a little in the last 20 minutes. But Moses provided a dramatic conclusion.
And it's over...
Chelsea 3-2 Shakhtar. Moses seemingly unmarked headed it home from Mata's delivery. He'd only been on the pitch for a matter of minutes.
GOAL Moses heads it home.
Corner now at the death. Mata to take it.
Unbelievable run from Ramires, skipping over several challenges and winning a late free-kick.
Shakhtar free-kick now after Willian is pulled.
Three minutes of stoppage time to be played.
Shakhtar denies three times in a matter of seconds. A couple of good blocks and Rat's shot deflected off Ivanovic for a corner.
Sturridge on for Torres.
Luiz booked for climbing over Adriano's back.
Sturridge being readied by Chelsea.
Ramires urged to shoot but he tries a cute chip into the box instead and Shakhtar clear.
Chelsea looking the most likely to snatch a winner, and what a crucial winner it would be.
Chelsea corner. Mata gives it another go and Cahill heads it towards the back post. Ivanovic narrowly denied by Willian.
Mikel penalised for a foul and the tempo has just been receding a little. Can either team pick up the pace for the last five.
Elsewhere, Celtic lead Barcelona 2-0. Remarkable.
Adriano with good movement to escape into space on the inside right of the box but he hits a shot straight at Cech.
Another Chelsea corner, but it's disappointingly floated straight into Pyatov's hands. Easy pickings.
Moses on for Oscar
Narrowly wide. That's his third decent effort of the game. Could that five-year goal drought come to an end?
Pyatov punches it out to Mikel, who strikes one from the edge of the box...
Mata and the Ivanovic thwarted and Chelsea have a corner. Just before that, Rat produced an excellent tackle on Oscar.
Stats: The reverse fixture in Donetsk saw 20 shots on target between the teams - only two matches in the Champions League have had more in the past five years.
Willian takes the corner but it's beyond the heads of anyone in orange.
Rat crosses from the left and Luiz does well this time to turn it out for a corner. Adriano was waiting to pounce had he not connected.
No penalty. The referee shakes his head and it was a close one. Looked like Srna made contact to me. Great through-ball from Hazard to create the chance.
Ramires goes down under pressure from Srna inside the area...
Hazard again getting into a good position and smashed a low cross goalwards. Pyatov does well to hang onto it this time, with Ivanovic lurking in close proximity.
Chelsea need to make these chances count though. Kucher has hurt himself in the challenge by the way and is currently receiving medical attention.
Hazard winning quite a few free-kicks, this time courtesy of him drawing a foul from Kucher.
Ivanovic out on the right wing - he hasn't done that enough this half - but as the ball falls back to Mata, the Spaniard puts too much on his cross.
As the ball was launched forward, Shakhtar left-back Rat looked at passing back to keeper Pyatov but thought better of it and just smashed it forward instead. Probably for the best.
Willian deep in Chelsea territory but Ivanovic too strong.
Headed in by Mikel but he's just strayed offside. Would have been his first goal in five years!
Mata to take it...
Really good work from Torres - could have gone down but stayed on his feet and then was brought to the floor again right on the edge of the box. Free-kick for Chelsea in a fantastic position.
Pyatov with ANOTHER poor clearance but this time he gets away with it. Very nervy.
Torres tried to chip a ball in towards Hazard but it's overhit. He's really quietened down in the second period too. Chelsea generally subdued.
Hazard, Oscar and Mata have not seen nearly enough if the ball since the interval.
Ramires advances down the left but after turning inside to cross, his delivery goes straight into Pyatov's grateful grasp.
John Terry warming up but I don't expect we'll be seeing him, at least not unless Chelsea go ahead and need to protect a lead.
Srna again stampedes down the right but Ramires makes a crucial interception.
Hazard whips it in and it goes straight through the crowd and out for a goal-kick. Torres and Ivanovic both had opportunities to turn it in but were unable to get the vital touch.
Teixeira takes a swipe at Hazard and Chelsea have a left-wing free-kick.
Chelsea have been under pressure from the off in the second half and haven't been able to exert any control over the game at all.
Stats: Prior to this game, Chelsea boasted the best shooting accuracy in the Champions League having hit the target with 67% of their attempts on goal.
That effort was almost Carlos-esque in its curl from outside of the post to in.
Rat cannons one goalwards and it strikes the post. Thunderous effort but Cech and Chelsea escapes.
Srna on the overlap. Surprise surprise. It's a Shakhtar corner as Luiz turns his cross behind.
Cech does 'a Pyatov' and knocks the ball unconvincingly straight out to an orange shirt. But he escapes a similar fate to his opposite number.
Shakhtar again attack down the right - so much space for Srna and Co to exploit.
Mikel again in an advanced position but he must have been getting a bit of a nosebleed as he gives it away.
Corner for Chelsea now after Bertrand got forward.
Mikel lets fly from distance and that would have been a collectors' item had that found the back of the net. It didn't.
Chelsea 2-2 Shakhtar. Willian to Fernandinho and on to Srna out wide. The captain knocked it back and Willian once more was in the right place at the right time. Great move and a deserved leveller.
GOAL Shakhtar with a great score - Willian the man AGAIN!

And we're off for the second half...
Oscar fires Chelsea 2-1 in front against Shakhtar from 35 yards
@profrienzi on Twitter: Chelsea too predictable. Everyone and their brother knows they will use front three to set-up Torres. Defenses can just swarm
@johnbrewinESPN on Twitter: John Terry applauded as he warms up. His team could do with a captain, leader and legend. His sprints actually took on the pitch too.
Oscar really stepping up to the plate in the Champions League - he's now netted in three of his four games for Chelsea in the competition this season and is their top scorer in Europe.
HALF-TIME: Chelsea 2-1 Shakhtar. Really entertaining first half. Shakhtar looked excellent but two mistakes from Pyatov have ensured the champions go in to the interval ahead. Look out for Oscar's goal, though, a sublime finish.
Rat tries to feed Adriano but Cahill stays strong to shield the ball out.
Luiz heads a clearance straight to Adriano on the edge of the box. Poor.
Just beyond Ivanovic. Some excellent football from Chelsea in the past five minutes.
Corner for Chelsea, Oscar looks ready to hit it on the edge of the box but he shows innovative footwork to cut back and dink in a left foot cross...
Mata, Oscar and Hazard have really started to click and the Brazilian has just had an effort well tipped over by Pyatov.
David Luiz doing his usual job of getting right up in the opposition penalty box. To be fair, he then chased back and won the ball back when Shakhtar threatened to break.
The game has been sparked back into life again and it's all Chelsea as they pour forward.
Chelsea 2-1 Shakhtar. Oscar must get credit though, another stunning strike. Mata's ball towards Torres was headed away by Pyatov, who was miles away from his penalty area. Oscar controlled the clearance on his chest and volleyed home from 35 yards. An utterly brilliant finish and he's scored his fourth Champions League goal of the season.
GOAL Oscar capitalises on another error from Pyatov.
@iRo_prophet on Twitter: Di Matteo has acquired attacking options and totally abandoned any resemblance of a solid defensive team #unfortunate
Hazard finally comes alive but unfortunately the only man in support is Mikel, whose hoofed cross is far too hard for Torres.
Cahill advanced at pace with the ball but then Ramires is sloppy in possession to allow Fernandinho to once again take control.
Free-kick for Shakhtar taken quickly but Ramires battles to win the ball back for Chelsea.
Pyatov understandably looking a little nervous when he gets the ball back to feet - Torres is accelerating towards him at every opportunity.
Mata chips the ball in towards Torres, who manages to flick the ball goalwards, albeit not on target.
Nearly an absolute stinker from Luiz as he connects sweetly with the air. No Shakhtar players in sight - fortunately for him and the Blues.
Wonderful football from Shakhtar; Fernandinho in to Teixeira, who exchanges passes with Adriano and strikes his shot narrowly past the left post.
Shakhtar have had a good little period of keeping the ball the last couple of minutes.
Luiz Adriano joins Willian in celebration of the latter's equaliser.
Torres looked to have gained possession in a dangerous area but was immediately swamped by four orange shirts - superb defensive work.
Remember you can Tweet me your opinions on the game - @marklomasESPN is the place to go.
Stats: Shakhtar have never won a match in England but have now scored in all five of their visits, all of which have been in London.
A quite beautiful turn by Ivanovic gets him out of a potentially sticky situation at right-back and Chelsea can break.
Haven't seen too much of Hazard so far in this one, he's been a little quiet.
Juventus lead 2-0 now, Arturo Vidal the scorer.
Great cross by Ivanovic and Torres rose to head it but couldn't quite connect fully.
In the group's other game, Juventus are leading Nordsjaelland thanks to Claudio Marchisio's goal. And would you believe it, Celtic lead Barcelona... again!
Adriano's header lays it back to Mkhitaryan, who strikes a low fizzing effort wide.
Oscar and Torres combine well and it results in a Chelsea corner.
Teixeira's turn to release Srna but it's a poor ball from the Shakhtar skipper. Again in acres - where is Bertrand?
Fantastic open game so far, Shakhtar looking a little more physical than Chelsea. Bertrand having a bit of a nightmare.
Torres with a delightful dummy to take it past Rakitskiy but he was a little greedy from a tight angle. The ball had to be played across the box but he went for the near post and hit the side-netting.
Pushed away by Cech.
Fernandinho again at the heart of the action as he tries his luck from around 30 yards...
Mata brushed off the ball as if he wasn't there by Fernandinho.
And another corner now. Srna's delivery nearly creeps past Cech as Bertrand's header diverted it in his direction. The Blues get it clear though.
Turned out for another corner. Srna whips it in but Ivanovic heads it clear.
Srna again gets into a dangerous position beyond Bertrand and wins a corner.
Torres looking really lively early on, understandably buoyed by that early goal.
Stats: Chelsea have not lost a Champions League home tie since a 1-0 quarter-final first-leg defeat to Manchester United in April 2011.
Wow. What a start. End to end stuff and a fantastic tempo. A cracking run from Fernandinho made that goal - he was excellent in Ukraine two weeks ago too.
Chelsea 1-1 Shakhtar. Superb driving run from Fernandinho and his pull-back was deflected kindly into the path of Willian, who side-footed home.
GOAL Willian has Shakhtar level.
Srna picks up a raking through ball and crosses but Chelsea clear their lines and a confident Torres escapes the clutches of the Shakhtar defence and fires a shot in that is saved low down by Pyatov.
Chelsea 1-0 Shakhtar. Good fortune or good attacking play? Poor back pass from Rakitskiy and Pyatov hit his clearance straight into an onrushing Torres, who deflected it into the net.
GOAL Torres has reacted quickest to put the Blues ahead.
Luiz tries to make amends by hitting an ambitious effort. It bounces in front of Andriy Pyatov, who nearly makes a complete mess of it.
Ramires wins a free-kick down the other end, similar position - about 30 yards out.
Yaroslav Rakitskiy picks himself up and strikes the free-kick straight down Cech's throat. Pretty straightforward for the Chelsea keeper.
Luiz again looking a little sloppy to give away the free-kick.
Darijo Srna swings it into the danger area but no orange shirt could get on the end of it. Great delivery from the captain.
A couple of sloppy passes from Luiz and Bertrand give the visitors an early corner.
Shakthar haven't lost in any competition for 37 games. Impressive stuff.
Shakhtar get us underway...
Champions League anthem finished and we're ready for kick-off.
I'm always keen to get your thoughts on the game and you can Tweet me any opinions on @marklomasESPN . Also, we have John Brewin at Stamford Bride for us this evening, he can be found at @johnbrewinESPN.
Roberto Di Matteo on benching Terry: "I'm not gambling, I think it's the right decision. He's an important player for us and will continue to be so."
Last time out, Shakhtar won 2-1 at the Donbass Arena but Chelsea were let off the hook a little bit by Juve's failure to beat FC Nordsjaelland. A win by more than one goal for Di Matteo's side tonight will take them top of Group E.
The teams are in and the major story for Chelsea is that John Terry is on the bench, while Juan Mata returns. Gary Cahill and David Luiz retain their places in the heart of defence - Ryan BErtrand comes in for Ashley Cole as expected.
Shakhtar star Fernandinho has been talking up a move to England and will be looking to impress.
Chelsea are without Ashley Cole for the visit of the Ukrainian champs, while manager Roberto Di Matteo has issued a rallying cry, saying: "This game is about our status as European champions."
Hello everyone and welcome to live text commentary of Chelsea vs Shakhtar Donetsk at Stamford Bridge. It's not quite Man City levels of 'must-win' for the Blues but failure to claim all three points would leave an uphill climb for progress.
